LED Headlight Bulb Size Guide: 9005, 9006, H11, H13 & More Explained

Shopping for LED headlight bulbs but not sure if you need a 9005, 9006, H11 or H13? You're not alone, because headlight bulb sizes can be confusing. This guide breaks down the most common sizes, what each one does, and how to find the right bulb for your car, truck or SUV in a couple of minutes.

How to find your headlight bulb size

  1. Check your owner's manual. Look for the "bulb replacement" or "specifications" section. It lists the size for low beam, high beam and fog lights.
  2. Read the old bulb. The size is usually printed on the base of the bulb (for example "9005" or "H11").
  3. Ask us. Send your year, make and model through our contact page and we'll confirm the right size before you buy.

Tip: many vehicles use different sizes for the low beam, high beam and fog lights, so check each one.

Single-beam vs. dual-beam bulbs

A single-beam bulb (like 9005, 9006, H7 or H11) does one job, such as low beam only or high beam only. Vehicles with single-beam bulbs usually have separate bulbs for low and high beam.

A dual-beam bulb (like 9007, H4 or H13) has both high and low beam in one bulb. If your vehicle uses one of these, a single LED bulb per side handles both beams.

9005 vs. 9006: what's the difference?

These two look almost identical, which is why they get mixed up. 9005 is usually the high beam and 9006 is usually the low beam. The bases are keyed differently, so a 9005 won't lock into a 9006 socket without modification. Many vehicles use both, so upgrading both together gives you matching color and brightness. Shop 9005 LED bulbs and 9006 LED bulbs.

Why upgrade from halogen to LED?

  • Brighter, whiter light: most stock halogen bulbs put out well under 2,000 lumens with a yellow tint. Luxx LED kits are rated up to 3,600 lumens of crisp white light.
  • Modern look: white LED light matches the look of newer factory LED headlights.
  • Plug-and-play: Luxx kits install in the factory socket and include EMC decoders to help prevent flicker and radio static.

What to look for in an LED headlight bulb

  • Active cooling: heat kills LED chips. Look for a real fan and copper heat transfer, like the 12,000 RPM fan and copper heat pipe in every Luxx bulb.
  • A decoder: helps stop flicker and dash warnings on many vehicles and reduces radio interference.
  • Correct fit: always match the bulb size exactly, and aim your headlights after installing so you don't blind oncoming drivers.
